There is one case of a nearby Standing Stone being a visual target from a Stone Circle. Other than that, Standing Stones as foresights have either other Standing Stones or Boulder-Burials as the backsight and are some considerable distance from them.
The cairns referred to here are large and on high ground. Every one examined to date is a significant target from a Boulder-Burial or, in one case, a Standing Stone near a Boulder-Burial. Some of the cairns also occupy significant positions when seen from other monuments but there is no pattern to these relationships and these would seem to be secondary re-use of an existing landmark.
Seemingly incidental occurrances are:
- The Standing Stone at Cullomane East that is a visual target from a Stone Circle is also on the horizon in non-significant positions from three other nearby sites:
- Foherlagh Stone Pair is on the horizon from two sites:
- From Lisheen Lower Boulder-Burial it is to the north-east with a declination of +32.4°
- From Lissaclarig Stone Row it is to the south-east with a declination of -16.8°
- Reenascreena Stone Circle is on the south-west horizon at a declination of -33.6° from
Carrigagrenane Stone Circle.
- Knockatlowig Stone Row has Standing Stone CO122-113 on the eastern horizon with a declination of -2.73°.
