Ahaun: Standing Stone WA035-012

NGR 222756/85212

Tap/Click pics for big ones.
Ahaun Standing Stone is south of both Dungarvan and Helvick Head. It is on a hilltop, 6.2km from Ballynamona Court Tomb but intervisibility would seem to be unlikely. However, the stone's long axis indicates horizons outside the luni-solar range yet is roughly perpendicular to a possible sight line from the tomb. Horizons visible from the site do not immediately look promising from an astronomical perspective and the site remains unsurveyed. There is another Standing Stone (WA035-061) in the same townland that now seems to be unreachably inside a forestry plantation.
